This Saturday saw a CTC Saturday Club with a difference. Working in partnership with streetbank.com and Camden Council we hosted a fabulous community Give and Take event here at the Abbey Community Centre. Over 100 local people cleared out an incredible 250kg of books, toys, clothes, kitchenware, sports goods, furniture and bric-a-brac and brought it down to the centre in the morning. A cracking team of volunteers from the centre and young people from The Challenge helped to sort and display everything. Then after a Bring and Share lunch, it was all given away for free! It was a great chance for people to clear out their clutter and bag something they needed at the same time. Lots of happy people and all for free!
The day was enjoyed by all – especially the food! A massive thank you to all our CTC members and young people from The Challenge who brought food to share for lunch and helped in the kitchen. There were so many compliments about the fabulous range of dishes – potato curry, sandwiches, soup, cakes and many more.
We held a raffle to raise money for the centre in the afternoon along with tea and cake.
Our crochet group that meets every Thursday 2-3pm were also selling beautiful baby clothes to help raise money for the centre. Thank you so much for all your hard work. They will be selling at other events in the near future too.
Thanks also to Age UK Camden who popped down to show older people how to use computers, tablets and smartphones. They will be back on September 26th for another Gadget Clinic so if you didn’t get a chance to have a go this time, you can book a slot on 07447 932 564.
Kate from Streetbank said it was their best Give and Take yet! And particularly commented on the strong sense of community at the Abbey Community Centre. Thanks to everyone involved who helped to make it such a great day. We look forward to the next one!
