From Bench to Bench – A guide to local healthy walks with a rest on the way!

Yesterday a group from Abbey Community Centre, KOVE (Kilburn Older Voices Exchange) and Kilburn & West Hampstead Pensioners Action Group got together to test out one of ten new short local walks being developed by KOVE. Bench to Bench is a new guide to local healthy walks with rests on the way!

L to R: Peggy, Phyllis, Evelyn, Elaine & Frieda

Led by the fabulous Mel from Kove, Peggy, Phyllis, Evylyn, Elaine and Frieda tried out Walk 3 from the guide: Broadhurst Gardens taking in Fairhazel Gardens, Fairfax Road to Finchley Road. Beautiful sunny afternoon and trees in full autumnal colour. Elaine discovered a Victorian post box (see photo). We also saw the old Decca recoding studio where The Beatles failed their audition in 1962 and passed some wonderful, grand Victorian villas. A lovely afternoon and finished up for a cuppa in Finchley Road – about a mile in all.

The next test walk will hopefully happen on Tuesday 25th November. If you would like to join the group for a stroll around the local area, let Laura know on 07447 932 564 or talk to the Abbey Community Centre Reception. Even if you can’t make it, Mel is also looking for people who are interested in testing some of these walks in their own time. Just let us know.

And watch this space for information on the new book!
