What a glorious sunny Saturday we were treated to for Saturday Club this month. The team of 10 CTC chefs, led by Alex and Lexine from North London Cares, cooked up a wonderful mushroom Stroganoff followed by a delicious apple tarte tatin. Karin baked us lots of sweet treats to share with a cuppa too. The coconut balls were a firm favourite as always!
DJ Dave kept the music flowing and after lunch we were treated to a fabulous afternoon of popular tunes sung live by the very talented Caroline and accompanied by her acoustic guitar. We sang everything from Moon River to Que Sera Sera! Percussion instruments were handed around and so everyone in the audience could join in too!
A big thank you to our very talented CTCers Jimmy and Frieda as well who put on a beautiful showcase of their artwork and an art sale. It really brightened the hall up and everyone was inspired by their creativity and skills. Jimmy and Frieda then very generously gave their paintings away in return for donations to help raise money for the Abbey Community Centre. Big thanks to Gill and Debbie too for curating so wonderfully! With the bunting draped across the hall made by Sushiben, Prabhat and lots of other talented sewing CTCers, the whole place was full of colour and laughter.
The raffle was popular as ever and helped us raise money for the work of the centre. Thank you to everyone who contributed by buying a ticket, or by donating prizes from home-baked cakes, to books and chocs and bric-a-brac. This month we were also proud to use our brand new handmade tombola made by CTCer John to shake up the tickets in style. It is a beautiful piece of handiwork and we’ll never have another complaint about mixing the tickets enough! Great work from Jahaan in spinning it so skillfully! Thank you! We look forward to seeing it decorated by brilliant CTCer Simone.
As you know, the whole day is volunteer-powered through our Community TIME Camden skills and time exchanges – with everyone contributing in some way from cooking, to setting up, to clearing away or by getting involved in their community throughout the month. So thank you to everyone who makes it such a fun day.
Don’t forget Saturday Club is now permanently on the third Saturday of the month, so the next one will be October 17th. This is also a great opportunity for you to meet your local councillors who are also here that day doing their monthly surgeries between 11am-12noon. No appointment necessary. Just pop in to discuss any local issue you might have.
