Sweet sounds of the Autoharp

Coffee morning members were spellbound by the Celtic sound of the autoharp, played by wonderful musician and CTCer Irene, who sang beautifully in accompaniment to the tunes she chose to share with us.  This handheld instrument can be strummed like a guitar or zither or plucked like other string instruments and has a set of buttons, rather like an accordion, that can be pressed to get different chords.

According to Irene, the Autoharp’s design makes it fairly easy to learn and for this reason it is a rewarding instrument to play because you can get a good sound from it quickly. Irene is also kindly offering to share her skills with her fellow CTCers with introductory hands on sessions for those who would like to have a go on this folksy instrument! A few CTCers have already had a go and had a lovely time. No previous musical experience is needed! And if you enjoy playing, Irene can help you to hire an autoharp long term so you can continue learning. Thank you Irene!
